Commonly treated diseases
Vaginitis: It is an inflammation of the vulva or vagina. Its symptoms are discharge, itching and pain. It can be treated with medication, therapy (for some types of vaginitis) and self-care.
Endometriosis: It is a disorder in which endometrium or a tissue like it starts to grow outside the uterus. Its symptoms are pelvic pain, irregular menstrual cycle, diarrhoea, constipation, bloating, or nausea, especially during menstrual periods. It can be treated with medication, procedures, such as laparoscopy, hysterectomy, and therapy (hormone therapy).
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): It is a hormonal disorder. It results in irregular menstrual cycle, missed periods, unwanted hair growth, alterations in mood, acne, thinning hair on the head, difficulty in sleeping, infertility, depression, fatigue, and weight gain. It can be treated with medication, and laparoscopic ovarian cauterisation.
Uterine Fibroids: A fibroid is a non-cancerous mass in the uterus. Its common symptoms are excessive menstrual bleeding, menstrual bleeding longer than 7 days, frequent urination, constipation, difficulty in vacating the bladder, and leg or spinal distress. It can be treated with medication and procedures, such as endometrial ablation, myomectomy, hysterectomy, and uterine artery embolization.
Cervical Dysplasia: Undeveloped cells begin to abnormally grow in the cervix. Generally, there are no symptoms. In rare cases, symptoms, such as irregular haemorrhage, painful intercourse, spotting after coitus, abnormal vaginal discharge, pain in lower back, and genital warts, may appear. Severe cases can be treated with cauterisation or surgery.
Commonly treated conditions of children
Measles: It is a viral infection of the respiratory tract. Its symptoms are fever, dry cough, sneezing, running nose, conjunctivitis, appetite loss, lethargy, watery eyes, etc. Measles usually resolves on their own. Vitamin A deficient children are given supplements.
Chicken Pox: It is viral infection in which red blisters form on the body. It usually resolves on its own, but medication can be given to treat the symptoms.
Mumps: It is a viral infection occurring in the salivary glands leading to their swelling. It goes away on its own within a few weeks.
