Cath Lab
Cath Lab
At Muthu Meenakshi Hospitals, a state-of-the-art Cath lab or catheterization laboratory is available where all the required diagnostic imaging equipment is present. It offers diagnostic, interventional cardiology, and peripheral vascular procedures for our patients. In the Cath lab, there will be a doctor and other staff to take care of you. They will take matters into their hands and guide you throughout the procedure that you’ll be undergoing. These staff, including the doctor, are some of the best in the region.
The Cath lab facilitates visualization of the arteries of the heart and the chambers of the heart. Tests and procedures of a minimally invasive nature are performed in the catheterization laboratory to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease or other abnormalities. The procedures that are done inside a Cath lab involve the use of small, flexible tubes, known as catheters, which can be used instead of performing surgery to reach the heart and blood vessels. There is special imaging equipment in the Cath lab that can be used to visualize the arteries and assess how efficiently is the blood flowing to and from the heart. Having this information aids the health team detect and treat blockages and other issues in the arteries.
During cardiac catheterization, a catheter is attached to a blood vessel in your groin, arm or upper thigh, or neck, Then, the catheter is threaded to your heart. Your doctor may use it to examine the valves of the heart or obtain samples of blood or heart muscle. Ultrasound can be used too. Your doctor may inject a dye into the coronary arteries to assess whether your arteries are narrow or blocked. It may also be used in the place of heart surgeries to rectify defects in the heart and replace valves of the heart.
