CT Scan

CT or CAT is short for computed axial tomography. A CT scan uses X-rays to produce detailed images of the inside of your body. The CT scanner captures images from different angles of the body and combines them to generate a 3-dimensional image.

We have a 16-slice CT scanner that produces high-quality images with the lowest possible radiation exposure on your patient during the exam. The scanner serves well for routine scanning procedures with its fast-processing speed and easy-to-use features.

In some cases, a contrast dye is injected into the vein of the patient, or the patient must drink a solution of the contrast dye. This helps show up parts of the body more clearly in the image. The test’s duration can range from a couple of minutes to half an hour, depending on the size of the area being scanned.

Why You Might Require a CT Scan?

To diagnose if you have a disease, such as cancer To find out the location and size of cancer and whether it is in proximity to nearby organs To check if the treatment is working It can be done as part of a follow-up after the treatment.

Procedure

The patient may need to not eat or drink for some time before the scan. Usually, the patient must undress, down to the underwear and wear a gown that the scan facility provides.

Some patients may need to drink a contrast dye, or it may be injected into the vein of the patient. As metal disturbs how the CT scanner works, all jewelry also must be removed.

Then, the patient will need to lie down on a motorized examination table. This table will slide into the CT scanner when the scan starts.

When the test starts, the examination table slides into the CT scanner. After taking one picture, the couch will move a bit and another image will be captured. The patient should be very still to get good images.

During the scan, there shouldn’t be anyone else other than the patient in the room. An intercom will provide a mode of communication between the radiographer and the patient. In case the patient is a child, a parent will be allowed in the room, but they will have to wear a lead apron to prevent radiation exposure.
